The Tsunami Action Plan aims to reduce the tsunami risk in the Marmara and Bosphorus coastlines of Istanbul Province. In other words; it is aimed to minimize the losses that a possible tsunami event that may affect Istanbul in general, to determine the precautions to be taken so that the critical structures located on the coastline are not affected by the tsunami event or are affected the least, and to define and detail the necessary stages.

It is of great importance to know the dangers that very important critical structures and critical points such as ports, marinas, metro entrances, tube passages, coastal roads, city parks, historical and touristic places located on the Marmara coasts of Istanbul, which is one of the most remarkable cities in the world with its historical, cultural and natural features, will be exposed to under the effects of tsunami and to determine the structural or non-structural precautions to be taken for impact reduction.

The prepared Action Plan primarily aims to increase the awareness and knowledge level of public institutions and the people of the region at risk, and then to ensure that the actions whose preliminary designs have been completed are developed and put into practice. From this perspective, it is an extremely important plan in terms of increasing ownership by ensuring the active participation of all stakeholders at risk in the process.

The results of the Istanbul Tsunami Action Plan study were evaluated in the District Tsunami Risk Analysis and Tsunami Action Plan booklets prepared for each district.
