In addition to determining the solution methods of earthquake, landslide, rockfall, flood and similar problems, the geological mapping of Istanbul, which forms the basis for the zoning plans started in June 1994. This study which is carried out in regions was completed in December 2011.

Geological maps consisting of 1088 pieces of 1:5.000 scaled layouts were prepared digitally in an area of approximately 5.366 km2, within the Istanbul Province border, excluding the lakes set by Law No. 5216.

The following is the entire report and executive summary of the report “The Geology of Istanbul” which describes the general geological characteristics of Istanbul, and the 1:100.000 scaled geological map created by the simplification of the 1:5.000 and 1:2.000 scaled geological maps produced from the Urban Geology of Istanbul and Microzonation Projects.
